Why Run Ethanol? Ethanol, derived primarily from corn, has become a common, cost-effective fuel choice as gas prices rise. It burns cleaner and cooler and is more resistant to detonation, making it a cheap alternative to expensive race fuels like race gas or methanol, especially on high(er) compression factory turbocharged vehicles. E85 = 85% ethanol / 15% gasoline; E30 = 30% ethanol / 70% gasoline, and so on.
What Is Flex Fuel? Flex-fuel allows an internal combustion engine to flexibly use one or more different fuels (typically gasoline blended with ethanol or methanol), stored in the same common fuel tank. Flex-fuel systems use an ethanol content analyzer to determine the amount of ethanol in the fuel system and a converter that sends this reading to the vehicle’s ECU to instantaneously adjust for varying fuel mixtures.
This Plug ‘n Play Flex-Fuel Kit uses factory plugs/outputs under the hood for power and communication to the ECU – no additional wiring, cutting, splicing, or running wires through the firewall into the cabin is required. This kit supplies everything needed for a quick, easy installation. Note: this kit does not include an ethanol content gauge, as it’s considered unnecessary – Hondata and KTuner V1.2 both offer Bluetooth capability, while the KTuner V2 LCD screen can display ethanol content if desired. All components are ethanol compliant.
